About the position

The Athletic Director is responsible for directing and managing the overall program of extracurricular and intramural athletics for the Montgomery Independent School District. This role aims to provide students with opportunities to participate in athletic activities while ensuring compliance with state, UIL, and local requirements. The position involves program planning, student management, community relations, and overseeing athletic events and personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and manage the district's athletic program and facilities.
  • Implement the policies established by the district and UIL in athletics.
  • Establish and maintain physical and academic eligibility requirements for participation in each sport.
  • Maintain an active program that promotes good sportsmanship and student development.
  • Obtain and use evaluative findings to gauge athletic program effectiveness.
  • Prepare athletic handbooks for students and coaches.
  • Approve all interscholastic game schedules.
  • Manage district athletic operations including ticket sales and game officials.
  • Oversee the cleaning, repairing, and storing of athletic equipment.
  • Approve and supervise all athletic awards programs.
  • Actively seek scholarship opportunities for students pursuing higher education.
  • Implement district student management policies related to athletics.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with parents, students, and teachers.
  • Oversee the insurance program covering school athletics.
  • Compile, maintain, file, and present all required reports and documents.
  • Develop and administer the athletic budget based on documented needs.
  • Recruit, select, train, and supervise all athletic department personnel.
  • Evaluate job performance of employees and programs.
  • Articulate the district's mission and goals in athletics to the community.

Requirements

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate.
  • Fifteen years of successful teaching and coaching experience.
  • Five years as athletic director, athletic coordinator, or head coach of a successful program.
  • Knowledge of overall operations of an athletic program.
  • Ability to implement policy and procedures.
  • Excellent public relations, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
