About the position

The Athletic Director for the City of Boston is responsible for designing, monitoring, and supervising various athletic and recreational programs within the community. This role requires a proactive approach to ensure that all programs are effectively managed and that participants have a positive experience. The Athletic Director will oversee the maintenance of equipment and supplies necessary for the programs, ensuring that everything is in good working order and readily available for use. Additionally, the director will supervise athletic staff as designated by the Site Administrator, ensuring that all staff members are adequately trained and equipped to fulfill their roles. A key responsibility of the Athletic Director is to publicize and recruit participants for athletic and recreational events. This involves creating promotional materials, engaging with the community, and representing the Community Centers at various events and meetings. The director will also be responsible for transporting participants to and from events, which requires a valid Massachusetts Driver's License. Negotiating agreements for gym usage and scheduling gym activities is another critical aspect of this position, ensuring that facilities are utilized effectively and efficiently. The Athletic Director will perform other related duties as required, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to adapt to the needs of the community and the organization. This position is essential for fostering a vibrant and active community through sports and recreation, and it requires a dedicated individual who is passionate about promoting health and wellness through athletic programs.

Responsibilities

  • Design, monitor, and supervise athletic/recreational programs.
  • Maintain equipment and supplies for athletic programs.
  • Supervise and arrange for the supervision of scheduled events.
  • Supervise athletic staff as designated by the Site Administrator.
  • Publicize and recruit for athletic/recreational events.
  • Represent Community Centers at/during events and meetings.
  • Transport participants to and from events.
  • Negotiate agreements on gym usage and schedule gym activities.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of experience with public recreation administration and the operation of planned recreational and athletic programs.
  • Familiarity with a broad range of recreation and athletic programs.
  • Ability to plan, assist, and supervise staff.
  • Ability to communicate and work with a broad range of people.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Experience in coordinating community recreational programs.
  • Must have and maintain a current Massachusetts Driver's License.

  • Experience in community engagement and outreach.
