About the position

The Athletic Director at Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro South will play a pivotal role in shaping the athletic programs and facilities for the organization. This position is responsible for overseeing both indoor and outdoor athletic facilities, managing Club recreation programs, competitive leagues, organized sports, and fitness facilities. The Athletic Director will also handle facility rentals, adventure and team-building activities, sponsorship programs, coaching leadership, and budget management. The role is designed to support the organization's priority outcome areas, which include Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, and Good Character and Citizenship. The Athletic Director will report directly to the Club's Executive Director and will be instrumental in developing the quality, consistency, and performance of athletic programs and facilities. In this role, the Athletic Director will provide strategic and administrative direction for all athletics programs and activities, ensuring they align with the core principles of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro South. The position requires establishing program objectives consistent with organizational goals, overseeing day-to-day program activities, and ensuring that members are encouraged to participate in various activities while receiving constructive feedback to develop their skills. The Athletic Director will also be responsible for designing, delivering, and evaluating athletic and recreational programs that meet the needs and interests of the target populations, ensuring their delivery in a safe and quality manner. The Athletic Director will supervise the management and maintenance of recreational athletic equipment and Club facilities, as well as departmental staff and volunteers. This includes hiring, training, mentoring, evaluating, and disciplining coaches and instructors to ensure maximum member safety and positive relationships with community partners. The role also involves marketing and public relations efforts to increase the visibility of Club programs and ensure effective communication with members and parents.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee indoor and outdoor athletics facilities and Club recreation programs.
  • Manage competitive leagues, organized sports, and fitness facilities.
  • Handle facility rentals, adventure and team-building activities, and sponsorship programs.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to assigned program and volunteer staff.
  • Develop quality, consistency, and program performance of athletics facilities and related programming.
  • Establish Club program objectives consistent with organizational goals and mission.
  • Ensure day-to-day program activities meet established standards and goals.
  • Design, deliver, and evaluate athletic and recreational programs that meet the needs of target populations.
  • Supervise the management and maintenance of recreational athletic equipment and Club facilities.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and motivate staff, ensuring effective communication and discipline management.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets and oversee equipment ordering.
  • Collect and analyze departmental statistics and prepare reports as appropriate.
  • Coordinate with Facilities Directors to manage facilities maintenance and implement comprehensive renewal of athletic facilities.
  • Increase visibility of Club programs through marketing and public relations efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of three years' work experience in a Boys & Girls Club, YMCA, educational institution, or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated ability in personnel supervision and facilities management.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to recruit, train, supervise, and motivate staff.
  • Working knowledge of budget preparation, control, and management.
  • Skilled at fundraising events.
  • Demonstrated ability in working with young people, parents, and community leaders.
  • CPR Certification; First Aid Certifications, Concussion Training.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to acquire a Commonwealth of Massachusetts 7D driver's license within 90 days of employment.

Nice-to-haves
