About the position

The Athletic Director is responsible for assisting the Principal with administrative and instructional functions to meet the educational needs of students and to carry out the missions and goals of the school district. This role involves overseeing the athletic program, ensuring compliance with regulations, and fostering a positive school/community climate.

Responsibilities

  • Implementing Manatee County School Board Policies and Procedures as it relates to students, staff, and school community.
  • Developing, implementing, and evaluating school philosophy, goals, and objectives reflecting district and state goals.
  • Developing and maintaining a positive school/community climate and safe and healthy environment.
  • Working with the Director of High Schools and other Athletic Administrators to provide a smooth functioning athletic program.
  • Determining staffing needs including selection, supervision, staff development, and evaluation of athletic personnel.
  • Organizing and coordinating personnel in areas of their assigned athletic responsibility.
  • Planning, implementing, and evaluating the school athletic program based on student needs.
  • Supervising pupil services (i.e. attendance, discipline, and counseling) as it relates to athletics.
  • Demonstrating a proactive orientation in recognizing and solving school problems.
  • Anticipating potential problems in planning and implementing programs and activities.
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of the School's Improvement Plan.
  • Planning for and scheduling facilities use by school sponsored groups.
  • Assisting in planning for and providing a schedule for supervising school activities and athletic events.
  • Maintaining records of coaches' completion of certification requirements as required by the Florida Department of Education.
  • Assisting in developing and monitoring an in-service program which meets the needs for professional growth of athletic personnel.
  • Coordinating all team, booster club projects and approving purchases in accordance with Manatee County School Board policy.
  • Submitting and following up on work orders or assisting in overseeing the process.
  • Maintaining, ordering, and inventorying athletic materials, equipment, and supplies.
  • Managing athletic budget and ensuring proper accounting procedures are followed by all coaches, booster clubs, and club sponsors.
  • Preparing financial reports for all athletic events.
  • Monitoring eligibility of student-athletes and ensuring compliance with all policies and procedures set forth by the Florida High School Athletic Association.
  • Preparing reports required by national, state and local agencies such as the Florida High School Athletic Association.
  • Preparing and reviewing athletic contracts for officials, contests, transportation, and vendors.
  • Coordinating athletic team transportation and responsible for coordinating the athletic insurance program.
  • Arranging for athletic contest security and coordinating athletic tournaments.
  • Assisting in the coordination of concessions at athletic events and seeking support from school business partners.
  • Supporting and attending community functions and seeking to improve skills and knowledge through in-service and other professional development activities.
  • Maintaining and modeling high standards of professional conduct and setting high standards of performance for self, others, and school.
  • Mediating and conferring with students, parents, teachers, and other school personnel to resolve problems which inhibit success of students.
  • Dealing effectively and appropriately with student accidents and other incidents by taking appropriate action and completing required student accident reports as required by the county.
  • Dealing with emergency situations such as facilities problems, student disciplinary incidents, student or faculty accidents, and safety.
  • Investigating student accidents and other incidents and taking appropriate action.
  • Using appropriate interpersonal styles and methods to guide individuals and groups toward task accomplishment.
  • Preparing and disseminating newsletters, memos, and letters to students, faculty, staff, and the community.
  • Using effective strategies to communicate with a variety of audiences.
  • Promoting an effective public relations program through newsletters, parent/teacher conferences and various multimedia outlets.
  • Making presentations to faculty, students, and parents.
  • Working with students, faculty, staff, Booster Clubs, and community members to develop and maintain a sound athletic program.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the principal.

Requirements

  • Valid Florida Professional Teaching Certificate
  • Master's Degree in Educational Leadership, Business or Athletic Administration
  • Minimum of three (3) years classroom teaching experience and/or administrative experience
  • Working knowledge of the principles of athletic administration
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations and policies governing education and athletics in the county and state
  • Knowledge of athletic, curriculum, instructional programs and best practices for appropriate level
  • Willingness to learn budgetary and supervisory responsibilities
  • Skill to work with people in an effective manner
  • Knowledge of scheduling and supervision
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize
  • Ability to use data in the decision-making process
  • Ability to work with diverse populations
  • Proactive orientation

Benefits

  • Salary range of $74,383.84 - $88,117.20 a year
  • Full-time employment with benefits consistent with the District's approved compensation plan
