About the position

The Director of Athletics at Missouri Valley College is a senior leadership role responsible for the overall administration and oversight of the college's intercollegiate athletics programs. This position involves strategic planning, budgeting, compliance with regulations, and fostering a culture of sportsmanship and professionalism. The Director collaborates with various departments to enhance the student-athlete experience and is actively involved in fundraising and community engagement efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative direction and oversight for intercollegiate athletics staff, programs, facilities, and activities.
  • Plan, implement, and direct all administrative activities of the athletic program.
  • Oversee budgeting, hiring, and development of coaches and athletics staff.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, NAIA, Heart of America Conference, and college regulations.
  • Administer departmental funds and accounts responsibly.
  • Collaborate with student administrative offices on recruitment and retention of student-athletes.
  • Ensure quality game experiences for student-athletes, families, and guests.
  • Conduct fundraising and community events in collaboration with the Advancement staff.
  • Create a long-term strategy for athletic programs with corresponding initiatives and tactics.
  • Coordinate and implement strategic planning processes for athletics.
  • Enhance the student-athlete experience and develop strategies for student-athlete input.
  • Regularly attend athletic contests and oversee recruitment and retention of student-athletes.
  • Supervise athletics facilities and team travel.
  • Monitor and report on student-athlete course performance and assist with interventions.
  • Coordinate use of facilities by outside organizations and manage team travel logistics.
  • Develop and manage the Athletics Department budget and monitor its implementation.
  • Establish and report on Key Performance Indicators for the athletics department.
  • Maintain eligibility, participation, and compliance reporting, and train new coaches in these areas.
  • Approve schedules, contracts, purchase orders, and travel arrangements for contests.
  • Oversee office procedures and work within the athletics department.
  • Hire, mentor, guide, and evaluate coaching and athletics staff.
  • Oversee the Head Athletic Trainer and athletic administrative staff.
  • Manage the search process for open positions in the athletics department.
  • Update the student-athlete handbook and coordinate changes with the VP of Student Affairs.
  • Evaluate and submit eligibility forms for student-athletes in cooperation with the Faculty Athletic Representative.
  • Support the NAIA's Champions of Character initiative and implement it on campus.
  • Represent the institution within the Heart and NAIA governance structure.
  • Lead fundraising outreach in collaboration with the Advancement Office.
  • Participate in the college's annual fund endeavors and capital campaign projects.
  • Oversee planning and implementation of annual athletics department fundraising events.
  • Secure sponsorship for athletics events, programs, and facilities.
  • Coordinate with the Alumni Office to develop alumni athletics events.

Requirements

  • Master's degree required, preferably in athletics management or a related field.
  • Valid driver's license and current CPR certification.
  • Experience developing and implementing multi-faceted assessment plans in athletics or related areas.
  • Familiarity and experience with NAIA athletics.
  • Coaching experience and multiple years of senior leadership in an athletic department, with experience managing all facets of an athletic department budget.
