About the position

The Athletic Director is responsible for overseeing the planning, budgeting, organization, implementation, and supervision of the Athletic Department at Highland Park High School. This role aims to maximize student participation in interscholastic athletics while ensuring safe and effective coaching and training methods. The Athletic Director will also develop a comprehensive athletic program that aligns with the school's commitment to excellence and equity, preparing students for success in a diverse and culturally rich society.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, budget, organize, implement, and supervise the Athletic Department.
  • Promote maximum participation for students in interscholastic athletics.
  • Oversee the development of a comprehensive high school athletic program.
  • Represent athletic programs to the District 113 administration, staff, parents, students, and community.
  • Evaluate extra-curricular athletic programs and engage in long-range planning.
  • Supervise and evaluate the Assistant Athletic Director and other staff.
  • Facilitate permits to participate in compliance with IHSA eligibility requirements.
  • Attend local, state, and national Athletic Director meetings/conferences.
  • Create and facilitate leadership programs for student-athletes.
  • Engage in fiscal planning and assist in preparing the school system budget.

Requirements

  • BA or MA in teaching required.
  • Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) required.
  • Administrative endorsement (Type 75, Teacher Leader or Principal endorsement) required.
  • Coaching experience required, with head coaching experience preferred.
  • Previous experience as an Athletic Director or Assistant Athletic Director preferred.
  • Certified in First Aid and AED training required.
  • Excellent human relations and organizational skills.
  • Ability to effectively supervise, train, develop, and evaluate staff.

  • Experience working with high school students.
  • Event management experience.
  • Ability to effectively use technology.
