About the position

The Athletic Director at Cristo Rey OKC Catholic High School is responsible for leading the Royals Athletics Program, serving as the primary contact for all athletics-related matters. This includes liaising with league officials, coaches, student athletes, school administration, and parents to foster a program that emphasizes sportsmanship, teamwork, skill development, and competition. The Athletic Director will work collaboratively with students, alumni, coaches, and parents to establish a clear mission statement and core values for the athletic program, ensuring that these values are upheld and represented to all stakeholders. This role also involves creating traditions and routines that reward students for exemplifying the values of the Athletic Department, such as organizing Senior Night and End of Season Awards Banquets. In addition to mission-driven responsibilities, the Athletic Director will pursue both short and long-term goals for the growth and development of the athletic department. This includes initiatives like strength and conditioning programs during the off-season, developing a booster program, engaging in community outreach, and building relationships with local colleges and universities. The position requires coordination with the Marketing and Development Manager to enhance the online presence and branding of the Athletics program. Logistically, the Athletic Director will lead the revision and implementation of an Athletics Handbook, hire and train coaches, oversee athletic and academic eligibility procedures, manage athletic schedules, and arrange logistics for competitions. Financial responsibilities include managing the Athletics Department budget, maintaining inventory of athletic equipment, and overseeing payments for league dues and other expenses. The role also emphasizes relationship building, requiring the Athletic Director to be present at practices, facilitate conversations among athletic conference schools, and build connections with fellow Athletic Directors. The position is part-time and allows for a flexible work schedule, with the expectation that the Athletic Director will be visible at athletic events and available for coordination with school staff.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Cristo Rey OKC Royals Athletics Program.
  • Serve as the primary contact for athletics with league officials, coaches, student athletes, school administration, and parents.
  • Work with students, alumni, coaches, and parents to create a clear mission statement and set of core values for the athletic program.
  • Uphold the mission of the athletic program and represent core values to stakeholders.
  • Establish routines and traditions to reward students who uphold values of the Athletic Department.
  • Pursue short and long term goals related to the growth and development of the athletic department.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with Marketing and Development Manager for the creation of a clear Athletics online presence, schedule, and branding.
  • Lead the consistent revision and implementation of an Athletics Handbook.
  • Hire and train coaches to develop the current sports program.
  • Oversee all procedures related to athletic and academic eligibility.
  • Manage creation, confirmation, and communication of all athletic schedules.
  • Help to arrange logistics for all competitions.
  • Ensure consistent and thorough communication of concerns, incidents, and celebrations with administration.
  • Manage the budget of the Athletics Department.
  • Maintain inventory of Athletic Equipment and create protocols for replacing and purchasing equipment.
  • Oversee the payment of all league dues, referees, scorekeepers, and field rentals for sports seasons.
  • Show presence at practices on a regular basis to check-in on the coaches and athletes.
  • Facilitate conversations among athletic conference schools and be the primary point of contact for scheduling district games.
  • Build relationships with fellow conference and area Athletic Directors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university.
  • At least 2 years of experience coaching.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
  • Experience working with high school students.
  • Leadership skills and patience for working with students of all ages.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual speaking and writing preferred.
  • Prior experience as an Athletic Director.
