About the position

The Athletic Program Director at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central and Northern New Hampshire is responsible for developing and overseeing a comprehensive sports and fitness program for youth aged 5-18. This role includes managing age and gender-specific sports leagues, fitness activities, and ensuring the overall safety and development of participants. The director will also be tasked with promoting and expanding athletic programs, ensuring compliance with childcare licensing requirements, and evaluating program effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and oversee the administration of designated Clubhouse programs and activities that support Youth Development Outcomes.
  • Establish program objectives consistent with organizational goals and mission.
  • Oversee the provision of day-to-day gymnasium program activities in accordance with established standards and goals.
  • Ensure that all childcare licensing requirements per the NH Childcare Licensing Bureau are implemented.
  • Encourage members to participate in a variety of program areas/activities and provide instruction and constructive feedback.
  • Demonstrate leadership to ensure proper conduct, safety, and development of members.
  • Establish and maintain program goals and settings to ensure the health and safety of members.
  • Ensure Junior/Senior program staff understand and effectively communicate program standards.
  • Evaluate Club programs continually, including tracking outcome metrics.
  • Control program and activity expenditures within the approved budget.
  • Allocate and monitor work assigned to program volunteers, providing ongoing feedback and regular appraisal.
  • Ensure all BGCCNNH policies and procedures are followed by all employees, volunteers, members, families, and other community members.
  • Oversee proper record keeping and weekly reporting of activities and events conducted.
  • Promote and organize after-program gymnasium activities for members.
  • Promote and organize Fall and Winter Basketball leagues for all age groups.
  • Develop a public relations plan for the athletics department and increase visibility of Club programs.

Requirements

  • Two-year degree in a related field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of two years of work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization with planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people.
  • 1000 hours experience working with children in a licensed child care program, recreation program, or elementary school.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.
  • Demonstrated organizational, staff, and project management abilities.
  • Must be 20 years of age or older.
  • Must possess a safe driving record and submit a copy of such a record.
  • Must have First Aid/CPR Certification.
