About the position

The Athletic Trainer position at Cabarrus County Middle Schools is a full-time role responsible for providing day-to-day medical coverage in a high school outreach setting. The primary focus of this position is to ensure the health and safety of student-athletes through preventative measures, immediate care procedures, clinical evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and reconditioning. The athletic trainer will work under the supervision of a directing physician and collaborate with the Sports Medicine Team to deliver excellent service to all participants in the athletic training outreach program. In this role, the athletic trainer will manage head injuries and concussions, ensuring that athletes receive appropriate referrals to medical professionals for optimal care. The position requires the implementation of assessment outcomes to evaluate the effectiveness of the outreach program and to determine the appropriate return-to-play protocols for athletes. The athletic trainer will also provide on-field medical care during practices and sporting events, perform clinical evaluations, and develop treatment plans that include rehabilitation and reconditioning strategies. The athletic trainer will maintain accurate records of treatment logs, injury reports, and medical inventory management, ensuring compliance with clinic standards. Additionally, the role involves preparing for practices and games by setting up necessary medical supplies and equipment, as well as developing a physician referral network to facilitate patient entry into the healthcare system. The athletic trainer will also mentor students enrolled in athletic training education programs and assist in the preparation of sports medicine programs and seminars. Overall, this position is crucial for promoting the health and safety of student-athletes while fostering a collaborative environment within the Sports Medicine Team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide athletic training services to high schools and community sporting events.
  • Deliver acute medical care to athletes during practices or sporting events.
  • Perform clinical injury evaluations and assessments of patients' levels of function.
  • Determine appropriate therapeutic treatments and provide rehabilitation strategies.
  • Maintain daily records of treatment logs, injury reports, and medical inventory management.
  • Set up all practice and game medical supplies and equipment.
  • Assist with planning and compliance of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ensure an Emergency Action Plan is in place for each venue.
  • Mentor and manage on-site education of students in athletic training programs.
  • Develop a physician referral network for patient entry into the healthcare system.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in athletic training from a CAATE-accredited program; Master's preferred.
  • Experience as a BOC Certified Athletic Trainer is preferred.
  • Current athletic training certification by the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer (BOC).
  • Currently licensed or eligible for a State of North Carolina License in Athletic Training within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to complete American Heart Association Healthcare Provider (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Excellent leadership qualities and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.

Nice-to-haves
