About the position

The Athletic Trainer position at Prisma Health involves providing athletic training services to athletes at assigned schools and events. The role requires a certified professional to assess and treat athletic injuries, communicate effectively with various stakeholders, and maintain compliance with healthcare policies. The trainer will work under the supervision of medical professionals and is expected to demonstrate professionalism and critical decision-making skills in their practice.

Responsibilities

  • Provides athletic training services to athletes at appointed high school and any other assigned school(s) or site as required.
  • Utilizes appropriate, sound and up-to-date clinical techniques to effectively assess and treat athletic injuries.
  • Demonstrates basic knowledge of diagnosis/conditions seen in the profession of Athletic Training.
  • Selects, performs and interprets the results of ATC examinations of appropriate systems.
  • Accurately performs and interprets standardized assessments as determined by appropriateness of athlete.
  • Identifies actual or potential problems that would impact the Athletic Training regimen as well as the overall inter-disciplinary care.
  • Establishes specific treatment plan and goals based on the result of the initial assessment considering all aspects of athletes condition: age, education level, cultural background and/or any other services the athlete is receiving.
  • Effectively communicates with appropriate members including physicians, rehab, parent/guardian, athletic directors, coaches, strength coaches.
  • Documents athlete status in designated EMR or equivalent.
  • Provides timely payroll information.
  • Provides supervision and mentoring to new team members, Graduate Assistants, students.
  • Completes annual mandatory computer based training, competency review and required employee health testing.
  • Represents organization as outreach team member and attends coaches/parent meetings as available.
  • Provides athletic training services at sponsored sporting events (Special Events).
  • Actively seeks related tasks in down time and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Coordinates pre- and post-participation exams and acquires protective equipment for athletes as needed.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information and complies with policies regarding healthcare delivery.
  • Assists school with management of infection risks & protocols in athletics.

Requirements

  • Certified Athletic Trainer (BOC certification required).
  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology, Athletic Training, or Physical Education with Athletic Training emphasis; Master's degree preferred.
  • No previous experience required.
  • South Carolina DHEC Athletic Training Certificate required.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work with various stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of office equipment, data entry, and mathematical skills.
  • Knowledge of patient equipment such as vitals, suction, and defibrillators.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in athletic training or related field.
  • Familiarity with EMR systems and documentation processes.
