About the position

The Athletic Trainer Certified position at SMO Creston Middle School is a full-time role dedicated to providing exceptional care to athletes and active individuals. The primary responsibilities include preventing, assessing, and treating emergency, acute, and chronic injuries. The trainer will work closely with athletes to recondition them after injuries, aiming to prevent recurrence, impairment, functional limitations, and disabilities. This position is situated within a middle or high school environment, specifically at Creston Intermediate and Middle School, and involves a commitment to working Monday through Friday from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with some evenings and Saturdays required. The role is integral to the health and wellness of the student-athletes, ensuring they receive the best possible care backed by state-of-the-art technology and practices. In addition to direct patient care, the Athletic Trainer will be expected to engage with the community, promoting health initiatives and participating in volunteer opportunities. The position emphasizes the importance of communication and collaboration with staff, peers, patients, families, and physicians to deliver quality care. The trainer must possess a comprehensive understanding of anatomy and physiology, current treatment techniques, and advancements in the field of athletic training. This role is not just about treating injuries but also about fostering a supportive environment for athletes to thrive both physically and emotionally.

Responsibilities

  • Prevent, assess, and treat emergency, acute, and chronic injuries.
  • Recondition athletes and active individuals after injury to prevent injury recurrence, impairment, functional limitations, and disabilities.
  • Provide quality care and service to appropriate patients in a middle or high school setting.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, peers, patients, families, physicians, and all internal/external customers.
  • Adapt to ever-changing work conditions and incorporate an understanding of the developmental needs of patients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited program in athletic training.
  • Current or temporary Indiana license, pending license must be obtained within 45 days of start date.
  • Current Board of Certification (BOC), Inc. Athletic Training certification.
  • Knowledgeable in anatomy/physiology, current treatment techniques, and functional progressions.
  • Ability to effectively provide quality care and service to appropriate patients.
  • Ability to communicate professionally, effectively, and compassionately, both verbally and in writing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior athletic trainer experience in a sports medicine outreach setting.
