About The Position

The Athletic Trainer position at UW-Parkside involves providing comprehensive care to athletes, including injury assessments, treatment planning, and communication with medical teams. Requirements

  • Athletic Trainer license issued by the state of Wisconsin.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) within 6 months unless exempted.
  • Driver license issued by the state of Illinois or a valid driver's license from the Division of Motor Vehicles.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training or related field.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work on a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to independently make sound decisions regarding operational issues.
  • Strong writing and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform injury assessments and refer patients for necessary care.
  • Communicate with patients to answer questions and instruct in self-care and prevention and treatment.
  • Establish a plan of care and implement individual treatment based on evaluation results and health goals.
  • Monitor and evaluate outcomes, adjusting treatment plans based on patient responses.
  • Identify factors affecting patient comfort and attend to their needs, working with a diverse patient population.
  • Plan for and complete patient discharge, providing written home programs and referrals for community services.
  • Direct athletes in performance enhancement programs for fitness or sports.
  • Complete required documentation following department policy, including patient assessments and progress notes.
  • Identify and explore ways to enhance outreach opportunities in the community to generate revenue and increase health education.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of treatment areas and equipment.
