About the position

The Athletic Trainer at Mid-Pacific Institute is responsible for providing on-site athletic training services to student-athletes during games and practices. This role involves evaluating injuries, providing emergency first-aid care, and collaborating with coaches and the Athletic Department to monitor the health of student-athletes. The trainer will also maintain the athletic training room and assist in training coaches and athletes on injury prevention and rehabilitation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide athletic training services to student-athletes at assigned games and practices.
  • Conduct and document evaluation following an injury and provide direct services to student-athletes in emergency first-aid care.
  • Work closely with student-athlete's private physicians as necessary for injury rehabilitation.
  • Maintain injury and treatment documentation while maintaining compliance with HIPAA guidelines.
  • Help create statistical reports of injuries and identify areas for change/improvement to reduce student injury.
  • Work closely with the Athletic Department and coaches to monitor the health of all student-athletes.
  • Assist in maintaining the athletic training room, and inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Conduct training for student-athletes and coaches as needed.
  • Counsel and advise student-athletes and coaches on prevention, rehabilitation, and treatment of specific injuries.
  • Disseminate pertinent information regarding injury prevention techniques and equipment selection/use for students, parents, physicians, coaches and other staff.
  • May be asked to travel with teams for state tournaments, pre-season tournaments on neighbor islands or out of state.
  • Work collaboratively with the Athletic Training staff at Mid-Pacific.
  • Assist with practice and event coverage with the staff so that sports that present the highest risk of injury are covered.
  • Communicate this calendar as needed.
  • Work with the School nurses and the Athletic Department to review Student Health forms for information that may affect athletic participation.
  • Maintain all athletic injury reports for all sports and student-athletes.
  • Attend Athletic Department meetings as needed.

Requirements

  • Degree in Athletic Training, Physical Education or Health Related Field.
  • Certification in National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA), by Board of Certification.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification, and willingness to obtain CPR Instructor Certification.
  • State of Hawaii Athletic Trainer Registration.
  • Excellent judgment and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to develop and modify treatment and rehabilitation programs.
  • Good interpersonal skills to relate well with students, parents, coaches, and other school staff.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, holidays, and weekends.
  • Ability to maintain required certifications.
  • Maintain a valid Hawaii driver's license.

  • Experience in a school setting or with student-athletes.
