About the position

The ATI Engineering Co-op - Hardware is responsible for supporting the ATI Controls Hardware Engineering team in the electrical design of embedded microprocessor-based controls for HVAC and water heating products. This role is crucial as it involves various tasks that contribute to the development and validation of control systems. Typical duties will include conducting controls electrical validation testing, building test fixtures, performing controls failure analysis, and conducting component qualification testing. Additionally, the co-op will expand their responsibilities to include control proof-of-concept design work, which is essential for supporting ongoing controls development activities. This position is integral to the electronic controls team within Rheem's Advanced Technology Integration organization, which is dedicated to providing advanced technologies and systems solutions for Rheem's diverse business units, including Water Heating, Air Conditioning, HTPG, Eemax, Friedrich, and Raypak. The co-op will be based in Indianapolis, Indiana, and is expected to work full-time, 40 hours a week during the SPRING 2025 term.

Responsibilities

  • Support the ATI Controls Hardware Engineering team in electrical design tasks.
  • Conduct controls electrical validation testing to ensure product reliability.
  • Build test fixtures for various control systems.
  • Perform controls failure analysis to identify and rectify issues.
  • Conduct component qualification testing to validate new components.
  • Engage in control proof-of-concept design work to support development activities.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a relevant engineering program (Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, etc.).
  • Familiarity with embedded systems and microprocessor-based controls.
  • Basic understanding of HVAC and water heating systems.
  • Experience with electrical testing and validation processes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous internship or co-op experience in a related field.
  • Knowledge of control systems design and analysis.
  • Familiarity with CAD software for designing test fixtures.
