About the position

The Office of the Advocate for Small Business Capital Formation (OASB) is hiring an Attorney-Adviser to support small business capital formation policy evaluation and analysis. Applicants can learn about the mission of the Office by reading more at http://www.sec.gov/oasb.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzing the potential impact of proposed SEC rules and regulations likely to significantly affect small businesses and their investors.
  • Overseeing the coordination of the Small Business Capital Formation Advisory Committee in collaboration with other SEC offices and divisions.
  • Assisting small businesses and their investors in resolving significant problems with the SEC or self-regulatory organizations (SROs).
  • Identifying problems that small businesses have with securing access to capital, including any unique challenges to minority-owned, women-owned, and rural small businesses and small businesses affected by natural disasters.
  • Identifying areas where additional educational content is needed to support small businesses and their investors.
  • Conducting outreach to small businesses and their investors to share our resources and solicit views on capital formation issues.
  • Interacting with a variety of organizations and individuals, both within the SEC and externally, on small business-related issues.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must possess a J.D. or LL.B Degree and be an active member of the bar in good standing.
  • Must be a current, permanent SEC employee.
  • Must complete a two-year trial period if the position is not the same or similar to the current position of record.
  • Must complete a pre-employment security investigation.
  • Must have Federal salary payments made by direct deposit.

  • Experience communicating information and policy on capital formation issues to small businesses and their investors.
  • Experience developing and promoting legally accurate educational content for small businesses and their investors.
  • Experience analyzing the potential impact of proposed SEC rules and regulations.
