About the position

The Attorney Editor role at Thomson Reuters involves providing legal interpretation through research, analysis, and writing to support the development and maintenance of legal information across various media. The position focuses on ensuring that published content is accurate, comprehensive, and of high quality, while also contributing to the understanding of legal developments and trends.

Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and analyze rules, regulatory, and statutory content.
  • Create editorial enhancements to help customers understand the context and developments of the law.
  • Classify legal information in the form of headnotes and other text.
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate statutory text by analyzing and integrating enacted legislation.
  • Review content rendered as print or electronic products for completeness and accuracy.
  • Meet editorial publishing schedules and quality standards.
  • Follow editorial style and standards for the department and individual jurisdictions.
  • Verify your own work and that of others for accuracy and completeness.
  • Develop legal knowledge and skills training as needed to complete work and stay current on legal trends and developments.
  • Attend and participate in meetings, prioritize work, and take part in the employee evaluation process.

Requirements

  • A Juris Doctor degree from an American Bar Association accredited law school.
  • Strong legal research and analytical skills.
  • Exceptional editorial judgment and attention to detail.
  • Ability to interpret, analyze, organize, and communicate complex legal material.
  • Understanding of editorial production processes and requirements.
  • Skilled in the use of personal computers and familiarity with word processing and online applications.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks/projects.
  • Ability to work successfully in a collaborative or team environment.
  • Ability to communicate appropriately and effectively with all contacts.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with Thomson Reuters Legal publications and products.
  • Competence in Westlaw navigation and online research tools.
