The Attorney Examiner position at the Bureau of Hearings and Appeals (BHA) in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, is a full-time role dedicated to the hearing and adjudication of formal appeals. The Attorney Examiner will be responsible for a variety of legal tasks, including issuing subpoenas, orders, and rules to show cause, ruling on motions, and conducting pre-hearing conferences. This role also involves providing direction and guidance to Legal Assistants and mentoring Administrative Law Judge staff, making it a pivotal position within the bureau. The work schedule for this position is Monday to Friday, from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with a 60-minute lunch break. Overtime may be required as needed. There is also an opportunity for telework after successfully completing a probationary period, depending on individual eligibility and the operational needs of the bureau. Candidates must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location within Pennsylvania to be eligible for telework. If telework is not an option, the Attorney Examiner will report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Two years of professional legal work experience, including one year of trial work experience.
  • A Juris Doctor degree from an American Bar Association accredited law school.
  • Possession of a certification of current license and active admission in good standing to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.
  • Must meet the Pennsylvania residency requirement.
