About the position

The City of New York is seeking an Agency Attorney Interne to join the Litigation and Program Counseling Unit (LPCU) within the Office of Legal Affairs. This role involves providing legal counsel to various program areas within the Department of Social Services/Human Resources Administration, representing the Agency in litigation, and drafting legal documents. The position is designed for law graduates or those admitted to the New York State Bar, focusing on supporting vulnerable populations through legal advocacy and representation.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal counsel to various program areas within the Department of Social Services/Human Resources Administration.
• Draft legal opinions and interpret laws and regulations.
• Analyze the impact of proposed amendments to laws and regulations.
• Draft litigation documents such as affidavits, motion papers, and memoranda of law.
• Represent the Agency in Supreme and Civil Courts and administrative hearings.
• Provide litigation support to the NYC Law Department in major litigation and appeals.
• Perform other related tasks as assigned.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited United States law school as defined in the Rules of the New York Court of Appeals.
• Admission to the New York State Bar.
