About the position

The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) Legal Division Enforcement Branch is recruiting to fill one permanent full time Attorney Supervisor position in the Information Governance Bureau. The office location for this position is Statewide. This position allows for a Hybrid work environment with telework at an alternative work location. An alternative work location would be the employee's residence. For travel purposes, reimbursement would be based on the office location. The Attorney Supervisor is an expert in the laws, rules, and regulations relating to CCLD programs administered by the Department. Under the general supervision of an Assistant Chief Counsel, the Attorney Supervisor will supervise and direct the workload of a group of Attorneys and Paralegals and may act in a lead capacity. The Attorney Supervisor supervises subordinate staff who provide legal support and advice to Department management and staff on the more complex and sensitive matters that arise within the functional responsibility of the Information Governance Bureau, including arrest-only triage; legislative review and analysis; training and forms review and analysis; public records act and subpoena responses; audits and data management. Additionally, the Attorney Supervisor personally performs the most difficult and complex legal research and provides legal support and advice to Department management and staff on issues and projects that have policy and political impact on the Department. Travel may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct the workload of a group of Attorneys and Paralegals.
  • Provide legal support and advice to Department management and staff on complex and sensitive matters.
  • Perform difficult and complex legal research.
  • Manage issues and projects with policy and political impact on the Department.
  • Oversee arrest-only triage, legislative review and analysis, training and forms review and analysis, public records act and subpoena responses, audits, and data management.

Requirements

  • Current member of the California State Bar.
  • Experience in a California civil service position at the Supervising Attorney level.
  • Current list eligibility for appointment to the Supervising Attorney level.
  • SROA/Surplus eligibility or reinstatement rights to this level.
