About the position

The Workers' Compensation Attorney role at Liberty Mutual is primarily remote, with occasional travel required for appearances. This position involves managing a caseload of workers' compensation matters, conducting depositions, and representing Liberty Mutual and its policyholders at hearings in California. The attorney will collaborate with the Workers' Compensation claims organization and contribute to the delivery of exceptional legal services while maintaining a healthy work/life balance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and revise legal strategy for discovery, investigation, handling, and trial/hearing of cases.
  • Appear before workers' compensation boards, conduct depositions, and draft legal documents including pleadings, motions, briefs, and opinions.
  • Conduct settlement negotiations when requested.
  • Advise and communicate with Claims Representatives and Insured Clients, providing clear legal opinions and advice.
  • Maintain good relations and communications with Claims Representatives and Insured Clients.
  • Stay current with legal developments and understand related medical, scientific, and engineering issues.
  • Prepare and conduct training sessions for Legal, Claims, or other departments as required.
  • Utilize technology to improve legal processes and reduce costs.

Requirements

  • Membership in the California Bar.
  • A minimum of three years' experience as an attorney.
  • Appropriate special licenses to practice before boards or federal courts preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • A JD degree.
