About the position

The Advanced Unlicensed Assistant (AUA) in the Adult Emergency Department at OU Health is responsible for providing direct patient care under the supervision of registered nurses. This role involves monitoring patients' health status, assisting with medical procedures, and ensuring quality care in a fast-paced emergency environment. The AUA will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to support patient needs and contribute to the overall efficiency of the department.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor patients' health status and implement the plan of care under the supervision of the RN.
  • Carry out physician and nursing orders as directed by the RN.
  • Take and record vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, and pulse.
  • Perform blood glucose monitoring and assist with obtaining supplies for procedures.
  • Participate in quality checks to decrease Hospital Acquired Conditions.
  • Monitor intravenous infusions and transfusions as directed by the RN.
  • Set up and discontinue telemetry monitoring as needed.
  • Collect specimens for analysis including blood, sputum, urine, and wound cultures.
  • Apply sterile dressings and perform sterile procedures as assigned.
  • Administer tube feedings and perform stomal irrigation.
  • Report significant changes in patients' conditions to the RN.
  • Assist with the admission, discharge, and transfer processes.

Requirements

  • Current AUA License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association required upon hire.
  • Knowledge of medical practices, procedures, and standards.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team to ensure quality patient care.
  • Basic knowledge of computer systems and good interpersonal skills.
