About the position

The Audio Engineering Tech IV at the University of Rochester is a senior-level position responsible for managing and supporting professional recording, broadcasting, sound reinforcement, and video production services for various performances and events. This role involves project management, client liaison, and engineering support for public events, recording sessions, and classes, ensuring high-quality audio and video outputs. The Audio Engineer also plays a crucial role in maintaining and documenting the audio and video infrastructure, providing training, and recommending new technology directions.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and support professional recording, broadcasting, and video production services for live performances and events.
  • Engineer Film Scoring Sessions, Recording Sessions, Opera Sound Design, Video Sessions, and Teleconferencing.
  • Provide project management and client liaison for public events and recording sessions.
  • Oversee all aspects of the recording and filming process, including pre-production planning, editing, mastering, and post-production.
  • Maintain and document assigned recording and video infrastructure.
  • Assist with technical design, purchasing, project management, and documentation.
  • Research and recommend new technology directions for audio and multimedia infrastructure.
  • Train members of the Eastman School community in professional recording skills.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required; Bachelor of Science preferred.
  • 4 years of experience in audio engineering and video production.
  • Expertise in recording, editing, mixing, mastering, and sound reinforcement.
  • Ability to read music, including full orchestral scores.
  • Thorough understanding of analog and digital audio signal flow and digital audio/video workstations.
  • Excellent customer service, creative problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to meet deadlines and remain calm under pressure.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with livestreaming and sound reinforcement in various venues.
  • Familiarity with project management tools and techniques.
