About the position

Tantor Media is seeking a full-time Audiobook Proofreader to join their rapidly growing team. The role involves critically analyzing audiobook recordings to ensure quality and accuracy before publication. Proofreaders will work both from home and at the Tantor Media headquarters in Old Saybrook, CT, playing a vital role in maintaining the high standards of the company's audiobook offerings.

Responsibilities

• Listening and reading along with text to ensure accuracy and consistency in audio submissions.
• Researching pronunciations in American and British English as well as foreign languages.
• Diagnosing audio issues and notating corrections on an Excel spreadsheet.
• Creating audio samples for the Tantor Media website.
• Performing light sound editing using Sound Forge.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree, preferably in History, English, Literature, or the fine arts.
• Strong computer aptitude, particularly with Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
• Ability to adhere to strict deadlines and work independently.
• Exceptional attention to detail and strong focus.
• Ability to multitask and read from a computer screen for extended periods.

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of foreign languages (Middle Eastern, Chinese, Gaelic, etc.).
• Familiarity with audiobooks and audio listening software (Sound Forge, Pro-Tools, etc.).
• Knowledge of American or British history and European dialects.
• Some knowledge of phonetics.
