About the position

The Audio System Integration Engineer position at Meta involves working within the Reality Labs Research team, which is dedicated to pioneering the future of virtual and augmented reality. This role is crucial in developing the technologies necessary for breakthrough AR glasses and VR headsets, focusing on audio systems that enhance user experience beyond traditional consumer audio devices. The successful candidate will collaborate with a diverse team of engineers, research scientists, and experience designers to advance the technical readiness of novel audio technologies. In this role, you will be responsible for integrating and evaluating advanced audio algorithms for AR/VR prototypes, ensuring that these systems deliver exceptional performance and user experience. You will engage in the design, implementation, and end-to-end verification of audio algorithms on embedded systems, utilizing tools such as Simulink and AudioWeaver. Your work will involve prototyping complex systems and applying electroacoustic measurement techniques to validate performance. The position requires a strong understanding of the system-level impact of design choices to achieve the highest performance in audio implementations. The role also includes developing and documenting electroacoustic and hearing performance requirements, translating high-level product experience requirements into functional specifications, and creating hardware and software test systems for acoustic verification and perceptual validation. Close collaboration with applied research, DSP, and hardware engineers will be essential for providing performance requirements and feedback to facilitate rapid development iterations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and document electroacoustic and hearing performance requirements for algorithms and hardware systems
  • Translate high level product experience requirements into functional specifications
  • Integrate and evaluate advanced audio algorithms for embedded real time systems in laboratory and real life environments
  • Develop hardware and software test systems and specifications for acoustic verification and perceptual validation
  • Work in close collaboration with applied research, DSP and hardware engineers to provide performance requirements and feedback for fast development iterations

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • 5+ years of technical experience in digital system design
  • Intimate knowledge of audio algorithm optimization and fine tuning
  • Experience with audio algorithms such as feedback cancellation, adaptive beamforming, noise cancellation and sounds scene detection
  • Experience with acoustic simulations as well as measurement software and equipment
  • Knowledge of electroacoustic transducers and systems
  • Proficiency in MathWorks tools (MATLAB & Simulink)

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Background in advanced audio signal processing (e.g. microphone array processing, ambisonic render, HRTF) and measurement techniques
  • Hands-on experience in verification and system optimization of body-worn audio devices
  • Experience in building complex test systems involving Simulink, MATLAB, Python
  • Deep understanding of psychoacoustic models and concepts
