About the position

GoPro’s audio engineering team is dedicated to creating immersive audio experiences for our customers, who utilize GoPro audio systems to capture a wide range of content, from thrilling formula drift races to serene acoustic guitar performances. In this role, you will be at the forefront of testing and enhancing the audio performance of GoPro audio components, cameras, and accessories. Your work will take place both in controlled audio labs and in real-world environments, allowing you to engage with the product in various outdoor activities such as mountain biking, surfing, and skiing. As part of your responsibilities, you will define and create new test systems, conduct peer reviews of the content you capture, and learn to quantify audio performance through rigorous testing. You will collect and analyze data to recommend improvements, document new audio test cases, and collaborate closely with audio engineers to ensure that the audio quality meets the high standards expected by our customers. This position offers a unique blend of technical challenges and outdoor activities, providing a dynamic work environment where you can grow in both experience and responsibility. Your daily activities will vary widely, from verifying audio performance on GoPro cameras and accessories to developing and deploying new audio test methodologies. You will have the opportunity to capture lab measurements in the morning and enjoy outdoor activities in the afternoon, making this role both exciting and fulfilling.

Responsibilities

  • Verify audio performance on GoPro cameras and accessories.
  • Define, develop, and deploy new audio test methodologies and test cases.
  • Capture lab measurements and conduct peer reviews of the content captured.
  • Test audio systems while engaging in various outdoor activities such as mountain biking, surfing, and skiing.
  • Collect and analyze data to recommend changes for improving audio performance.
  • Document and create new audio test cases.
  • Coordinate work with audio engineers to ensure high-quality audio output.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in an engineering discipline, preferably related to acoustics.
  • Experience with a variety of outdoor activities, including mountain biking, surfing, riding motorcycles, skating, skiing, and snorkeling.
  • Experience with audio test systems such as Audio Precision and Listen.
  • Ability to work well with others.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with videography.
  • Experience as a musician, including music performance and recording.
  • Knowledge of mechanical modeling and 3D printing.
  • Understanding of electrical circuit and PCB fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with DSP fundamentals.
