About the position

Daly Computers, Inc. is seeking a friendly, experienced, detail-oriented Audio Visual (AV) Designer/System Engineer to join our team. This position is crucial as it involves working closely with the Sales and Integration departments to design systems or major portions of systems that meet our customers' needs. The AV Designer/System Engineer will be responsible for developing accurate Bills of Materials (BOM), drawings, and sketches that align with customer expectations. The role requires the ability to create preliminary layouts and sketches necessary to present design proposals to customers alongside the sales force. The successful candidate will accurately determine the necessary equipment quantities, pricing, and labor needed to complete projects according to both company and customer standards. The AV Designer/System Engineer will also be involved in designing new systems and equipment configurations for various environments, including huddle spaces, training rooms, classrooms, auditoriums, and boardrooms. This position requires participation in customer meetings, project reviews, and the development of comprehensive project descriptions, State of Work, and other necessary documentation. The role demands a strong understanding of audio integration and the ability to act as a subject matter expert for the team. Additionally, the candidate will be expected to maintain knowledge of current technologies and participate in personal and professional development activities. This position reports directly to the Audio Video Director and typically requires working hours from Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with the possibility of overtime and weekend hours. Local travel is expected within the Maryland, DC, and Virginia areas. Candidates must pass a comprehensive criminal background check and drug screening, and must possess reliable transportation, a clean driving record, a valid driver's license, and proof of insurance.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Sales to determine customer needs and expectations from simple to complex system designs.
  • Develop basic data and preliminary layouts/sketches necessary to present design proposals to customers.
  • Design new systems and equipment configurations for huddle spaces, training rooms, classrooms, auditoriums, boardrooms, and any other customer area requirements.
  • Develop Bid Specifications.
  • Determine detailed schematic diagrams and cost analyses.
  • Determine the amount of job-related labor.
  • Responsible for generating comprehensive project description and State of Work, List of Materials, Drawings, etc.
  • Provide additional documentation as required per project that may include page layouts, program files, Autocad drawings, etc.
  • Participate in customer meetings where appropriate.
  • Participate in Project Review at the conclusion of the assignment.
  • Ensure the ability to speak to the actual cost vs. budgeted expenses, equipment charges, labor charges, etc.
  • Develop Change Orders when needed in conjunction with Project Manager for product changes, job enhancements, additions, etc. Obtain proper approval on all Change Orders.
  • Ensure as-built documentation and Change Orders are complete and accurate.
  • Research and Development of new products that can improve our offering to our clients.
  • Responsible for proper audio integration.
  • Act as the subject matter expert for the team as required.
  • Provide remote technical support for staff as required.
  • Actively participate in personal and professional development.
  • Maintain knowledge of current technologies.
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Three (3) years engineering experience in AV/Broadcasting design.
  • Industry certifications such as CTS, CTS-D, BICSI.
  • Possess excellent project management and time management skills.
  • Excellent communicator and relationship builder in person, written, and via media calls.
  • Must be comfortable working on ladders and on lifts as required.
  • Ability to read and write schematics and architectural drawings.
  • Strategic thinking with a keen eye to detail.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve issues at a functional and strategic level.
  • Advanced knowledge of manufacturers such as: Creston, Extron, Biamp, Z-Band, Panasonic.
  • Ability to influence and engage others.
  • Skilled in analyzing metrics and areas of improvement for efficiencies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with project management software.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and other design software.
