About the position

The Design Engineer (Critical Infrastructure) at Diversified plays a pivotal role in the core team for each project, providing technical direction and insight throughout the project life cycle. This includes everything from the initial sales concept to design development, construction drawings, and implementation support. As a technical authority on the project team, the Design Engineer is crucial in determining and executing client and system requirements, taking a holistic view of solutions, and collaborating with various teams as necessary. Reporting to a Senior Manager of Project Engineering, the Design Engineer's project assignments are based on enterprise-wide demands and they are responsible for mentoring other associate design engineers. Typically, they will be assigned to mid to complex projects. In this role, the Design Engineer leads complex engagements, working directly with clients and project teams to develop solutions, budgets, timelines, and manage expectations. They negotiate changes in deliverables and schedules and serve as an escalation point for engineering issues. The Design Engineer conceptualizes system designs and determines system requirements, providing technical expertise and coordination information to support system architecture and installation, as well as planning for audio, video, and control solutions. They oversee and/or develop the Bill of Materials (BOM) and supporting documentation, employing a detailed design documentation strategy based on established engineering standard practices. This includes generating detailed PDF markups for CAD to translate into construction drawings, tracking engineering team tasks to completion, and generating functional system descriptions, complete block wiring diagrams, rack elevations, custom plates, or cabling assemblies. The Design Engineer is also responsible for determining, presenting, reviewing, and justifying mathematically sound system design calculation principles, such as speaker coverage, power requirements, and streaming bandwidth. They research, identify, and recommend technology options for clients and projects, providing technical expertise for the creation and reconciliation of the complete construction drawing package and supporting documentation for installation. During project deployment, they test, commission, and configure subsystems, supporting projects and teams in the build phase and completing as-built drawings for service hand-over. Regular project engineering milestone status updates are provided to Technical Operations, Project Engineering, and other teams. The Design Engineer continues to develop expertise in the industry through ongoing review of trade publications, participation in industry tradeshows, seminars, and educational forums.
