About the position

As an Audio Visual Design Engineer at Beacon Hill Staffing Group, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the audio-visual experience across various campus locations at one of the nation's top research universities. Your primary responsibilities will include providing comprehensive audio-visual design support in lecture halls, conference rooms, auditoriums, and hallways. This position involves not only the technical aspects of audio-visual design but also project management and direct interaction with faculty and staff to ensure that installations meet their needs and expectations. You will be responsible for permanent installations, which include setting up speakers, mounting ceiling projectors, and designing classroom systems tailored to the specific requirements of each space. Your expertise will be essential in troubleshooting issues that arise in time-sensitive situations, often requiring face-to-face interactions with professors and employees on campus. This role demands a blend of technical knowledge, problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of individuals. In addition to installation and troubleshooting, you will be expected to read and interpret architectural and CAD drawings, ensuring that all designs align with the university's standards and specifications. Responsibilities

  • Provide audio visual design support across various campus locations including lecture halls, conference rooms, auditoriums, and hallways.
  • Perform permanent installations such as installing speakers, mounting ceiling projectors, and designing classroom systems.
  • Troubleshoot audio visual issues in time-sensitive situations, interacting directly with professors and employees.
  • Read and interpret architectural drawings, CAD drawings, and blueprints to ensure proper installation and design.
  • Manage projects related to audio visual installations, ensuring timely and effective completion.
  • Utilize power tools and equipment for installations and maintenance of audio visual systems.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of audio visual design, including the differences between AVD and live media support.
  • 2-4+ years of experience programming with Crestron, Biamp, or Extron.
  • Skilled in reading architectural and CAD drawings or blueprints.
  • Experience working with classrooms, lecture halls, conference rooms, and auditoriums.
  • Experience with permanent installations such as speakers, elevated screens, drop-down screens, amplifiers, and ceiling projectors.
  • Ability to troubleshoot in a face-to-face environment effectively.
  • Experience in audio visual equipment programming, sound, lighting, and acoustics.
  • Familiarity with power tools such as a circular saw.
  • Experience reading schematics and construction design materials.
  • Skilled in project management, engineering, and programming.
  • Familiarity with Windows or Mac operating systems.
  • Valid driver's license for driving university vehicles.
  • Strong communication skills and a personable demeanor.

  • Background in education, preferably in higher-level academia.
