About the position

Tri-City Electric Co. is currently seeking an Audio/Visual Engineer/Estimator for an immediate opening in Des Moines, IA. The Audio/Visual Engineer/Estimator will be responsible for preparing detailed estimates and providing onsite administrative and technical support on audio visual projects. This role requires a senior level of technical knowledge on audio-visual products and infrastructure, as well as a strong understanding of networking as it pertains to AV systems. The successful candidate will oversee the development of AV architectural drawings, system flows, cable/conduit risers, and product detail pages, ensuring that all project specifications and requirements are met. In this position, the Audio/Visual Engineer/Estimator will attend pre-bid meetings to determine the scope of work and required contents of projects. They will review proposed specifications and drawings to gather quotes, print drawings, perform take-off estimating, and respond to RFIs and RFQs. Additionally, the role involves reviewing and refining Bills of Material, communicating infrastructure and architectural requirements to construction teams, and conveying system implementation plans to installation teams. The engineer/estimator will also communicate AV networking requirements to the client's network teams and identify and develop change orders as necessary. Managing the quality of deliverables is a key responsibility, along with attaining and maintaining manufacturer and industry-related certifications as required. The engineer/estimator will operate and manage all tasks in accordance with company rules and policies, support the project manager in procurement, purchasing, subcontract and lease agreements, and equipment tracking, and maintain a presence during project and coordination meetings. They will assist in gathering documentation for field testing, tracking and scheduling final punch list items, and scheduling and documenting owner training. Furthermore, the engineer/estimator will work with PMAs on submitting proper documentation for projects and assist in the shop drawing review process.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the Development of AV Architectural Drawings, System Flows, Cable/Conduit Risers, Product Detail pages
  • Attending pre-bid meetings to determine the scope of work and required contents of projects
  • Reviewing proposed specifications and drawings to determine the scope of work and required contents of estimate, gathering quotes, printing drawings, counting, take-off estimating, and responding to RFIs and RFQs
  • Reviewing and refining Bills of Material
  • Communicating Infrastructure and architectural requirements to construction teams
  • Communicating System implementation plans to installation teams
  • Communicating AV Networking requirements to Client's Network teams
  • Identifying and developing Change Orders
  • Managing the quality of the deliverables
  • Attaining and maintaining manufacturer and industry-related certifications as required
  • Operating and managing by all company rules and policies
  • Supporting the Project Manager in all areas including procurement, purchasing, subcontract and lease agreements, and equipment tracking
  • Maintaining presence during project meetings and coordination meetings
  • Assisting in gathering documentation for field testing

  • Assisting in tracking and scheduling final punch list items
  • Assisting in scheduling and documenting Owner training

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in design or engineering or related field
  • Minimum of 5 Years experience in (AV) Audio/Visual System design, estimating and/or project management experience
  • Knowledge of DTools or experience using another platform (System Integration Software) preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
