About the position

The Audio Visual Engineer, I will support AV Engineering & Systems support throughout the organization, primarily focusing on the NYC location. This role involves providing AV support to internal customers, managing AV projects, and ensuring efficient operations of AV systems. The position requires in-office presence due to the nature of the work and includes occasional travel to various DDM locations in the contiguous US.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with Lead, AV Systems Engineering & Support on various AV projects.
  • Update and maintain AV Event Google Sheet with relevant Live Event details.
  • Support the design and implementation of AV Drawings.
  • Organize AV Engineering documentation.
  • Utilize ticketing system to document all tasks and work.
  • Assist in efforts focusing on automation and efficiency of existing and new processes and workflows.
  • Identify, track, and maintain asset inventory across the organization.
  • Serve as a point of escalation for AV issues, including after-hour and weekend support for business-critical functions.
  • Monitor and track incident trends for each location to ensure proper escalation and responsiveness.
  • Provide support for conference room and Zoom support.
  • Create and maintain team documentation and playbooks in conjunction with AV management and peers.
  • Liaise with AV vendors during project integrations.
  • Support the RMA process for defective AV equipment and track warranty information.
  • Assist with asset management and oversee management and auditing of hardware inventory.
  • Assist with ad-hoc and team projects as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an AV Technical support role.
  • 2 years of AV Engineering experience.
  • Ability to clearly explain technical concepts at all levels of understanding.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, floorplans, and rack elevations.
  • Experience designing, testing, and implementing both simple and complex AV systems.
  • Skilled at troubleshooting basic to intermediate AV issues.
  • Knowledge of audio principles, including noise floor and signal-to-noise ratio.
  • Experienced with dynamics processing techniques such as compression, equalization, limiting, gating, and filtering.
  • Expertise in time-based processing such as reverb, RT60, delay, and chorus.
  • Understanding of signal flow, patching, and gain staging.
  • Proficiency in sample rate conversion, A/D and D/A conversion, and frequency spectrum analysis.
  • Familiarity with Nyquist theory, jitter, transient response, proximity effect, and impedance.
  • Knowledge of audio playback, processing, and sound reinforcement.
  • Skilled in microphone operation and techniques.
  • Knowledge in DSP configuration, operation, and troubleshooting.
  • Understanding of visual principles such as color balancing, contrast ratio, screen resolution, scaling, frame rate, alignment, and aspect ratio.
  • Hands-on experience with video distribution hardware and video troubleshooting.
  • Proficient in operating and troubleshooting video matrix switchers and PTZ cameras.
  • Experience with AV control processors and peripherals, including systems like Crestron, Extron, and Q-SYS.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting AV control systems using tools such as Crestron Toolbox, Extron Toolbelt, and Q-SYS Designer.
  • Knowledge of streaming protocols such as NDI, RTMP, RTSP, and HLS.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with IPTV systems and their operation.
  • Experience with HTML-based DSP software such as IntelliMix.
