About the position

The position involves evaluating, treating, and counseling patients of all ages with hearing disorders, ensuring adherence to professional and corporate quality standards. The role emphasizes a commitment to total quality improvement and requires collaboration with other healthcare professionals to develop effective treatment plans.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts hearing and balance evaluations for inpatients and outpatients, including neonates, pediatric patients, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.
  • Assesses the history, medical diagnosis, social, and communicative condition of the patient through testing and interviews to establish a basis for treatment.
  • Characterizes the perceptual abilities and physiological state of the auditory system in patients of all ages through history, interview, and formal diagnostic testing.
  • Understands otologic and neurological diagnostic processes to obtain audiological information that aids physicians in diagnosis.
  • Generates timely, clear, and succinct written communications for treating physicians.
  • Understands the theory behind established clinical protocols and can modify diagnostic procedures to meet patient needs without sacrificing test reliability or validity.
  • Has expertise in at least two areas of Audiology and provides inservice and professional training in those areas.
  • Develops rational treatment and monitoring plans with patients and their significant others, including the use of amplification and counseling.
  • Develops methods to identify hearing-impaired patients in the hospital and community and facilitates awareness of hearing impairment management.
  • Participates in quality monitoring and evaluation activities to ensure compliance with JCAHO and other quality standards.

Requirements

  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A)
  • Three to five (3-5) years of clinical experience in a medical/hospital setting
  • New York State License as an Audiologist
