About the position

The Audiology/Speech Aide at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) plays a crucial role in supporting patient care within the Center for Childhood Communication. This position involves assisting licensed audiologists and speech-language pathologists in various tasks related to patient care, equipment support, and administrative duties, all aimed at enhancing the quality of care provided to children.

Responsibilities

  • Screens the hearing of newborns and infants under six months of age using automated equipment.
  • Assists clinicians by focusing and directing patients during audiologic and speech-language procedures.
  • Prepares speech/language/swallowing assessment and treatment materials, such as mixing barium products and creating communication boards.
  • Participates in patient safety calls and debriefing.
  • Inspects and performs biological checks of clinical equipment routinely.
  • Troubleshoots and makes minor repairs of clinical equipment or arranges for inspection by Biomedical Engineering.
  • Arranges for and supports external annual clinical equipment calibration.
  • Processes and inventories new or replacement clinical equipment, ensuring proper labeling.
  • Performs electroacoustic analyses of hearing technology and devices presented for repair.
  • Maintains loaner device libraries, including distribution and retrieval of equipment.
  • Performs daily clinic opening and closing procedures and infection control procedures.
  • Submits Facilities and Environmental Services requests for clinical areas.
  • Conducts weekly regulatory readiness surveys in clinical areas and submits results to the Regulatory and Accreditation Team.
  • Orders devices for patient purchase or loan according to clinical staff instructions and family preferences.
  • Completes repair and return-for-credit forms for patient devices and arranges for shipping.
  • Transports patients between therapy sessions as needed.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree Required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology and/or Hearing Science (Audiology) Preferred.
  • Work experience in healthcare- or child development-related fields Preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Intermediate proficiency with MS Office 365 products.
  • Self-starter, motivated, organized, and independent.
