About the position

The Audit Coordinator at Northwestern Medicine plays a crucial role in ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and facilitating audit activities within the Central Business office. This position is integral to the organization’s mission of providing exceptional healthcare services, focusing on patient satisfaction and operational efficiency. The Coordinator will manage various audit processes, including Medicare Bad Debt Cost reporting and correspondence reviews, while also supporting post-discharge analysis and chart corrections as needed.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate audit activities relevant to the Central Business office of Northwestern Medicine West Region.
• Research and facilitate appropriate responses to audits within the contracted or payer timeframe.
• Gather information related to Medicare bad debts and ensure timely completion of Medicare Bad Debt Cost Reporting.
• Review medical records for both Governmental and non-Governmental audits.
• Assist with post-discharge analysis and chart correction as needed.
• Demonstrate I-CARE values in daily work and interactions.
• Provide accurate information and timely updates to patients and customers.
• Address questions and concerns promptly, or identify appropriate resources to do so.
• Assist with resolving third-party payor inquiries and billing disputes.
• Provide summary reports and analysis to hospital staff and management as requested.

Requirements

• 5 years of experience in Patient Financial Services.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Specialized training in medical terminology and coding.
• Strong background in both Governmental and Non-Governmental billing as well as claims follow-up and insurance denials.
• Knowledge of Medicare's Cost reporting analysis.

Nice-to-haves

• 5 - 7 years of previous Patient Financial Services experience.
