About the position

The Audit Director at the University of Connecticut is responsible for planning, developing, and executing the internal audit functions of the University. Reporting to the Chief Audit Executive, this role involves overseeing audit activities across the Storrs and Farmington campuses, with a primary focus on UConn Health. The Audit Director will ensure compliance with regulations, manage audit schedules, and supervise audit staff while maintaining confidentiality in sensitive matters.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the annual risk assessment process and overall audit planning with the Chief Audit Executive.
  • Establishes the day-to-day audit schedule and verifies the integrity of each audit conducted by assigned staff.
  • Reviews and approves audit reports produced by auditors before forwarding them to the Chief Audit Executive.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures for Audit and Management Advisory Services.
  • Assists with the oversight and management of the department's budget.
  • Represents the Chief Audit Executive in their absence.
  • Provides direct supervision to assigned staff, including hiring, evaluation, training, and discipline.
  • Serves as a key liaison to University management regarding audit functions.
  • Conducts audits to protect University assets and interests, including financial records and operational policies.
  • Analyzes and evaluates results of audits, reporting findings and making formal recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Follows up on audit recommendations to ensure implementation of changes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business management, or related field.
  • Advanced knowledge of financial, operational, and performance auditing methods and principles.
  • More than 5 years of experience in professional auditing.
  • Professional certification as a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative regularly.
  • Supervisory experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in a related field.
  • Experience in Higher Education and/or Healthcare.
  • More than 5 years of supervisory experience.
  • Information Technology audit experience.
  • Knowledge of research-related compliance.
