About the position

Novotny CPA Group, located in Norton Shores and Grand Rapids, MI, is a well-established CPA and advisory firm specializing in consulting, corporate audits, reviews, compilations, and employee benefit plan audits. We also provide comprehensive tax return preparation services for individuals, corporations, trusts, estates, and gifts. Our mission is to deliver assurance, tax, accounting, and specialized solutions that empower our clients to effectively manage their businesses and personal finances. We pride ourselves on assisting clients in creating growth plans that are strategically aligned with tax strategies to maximize potential tax benefits. As a small but growing firm, we leverage our independent membership in the BDO Alliance to offer our clients the flexibility, efficiency, and effectiveness typically associated with larger firms. We are currently seeking an Audit Staff Accountant to join our team at either our Norton Shores or Grand Rapids location. This role is ideal for a talented, self-directed individual who values teamwork and is eager to build long-lasting relationships with clients in a supportive environment that promotes flexibility and professional development. In this position, you will collaborate with a team dedicated to serving accounting and audit clients across various industries, excluding not-for-profit and governmental work. You will develop your skills in pre-engagement planning, execution, and delivery of audit services, while also focusing on building client relationships to support the growth of our audit business. You will have the opportunity to learn and utilize new and emerging technologies and audit tools, enhancing your professional capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a team to serve accounting and audit clients across various industries.
  • Develop skills in pre-engagement planning, execution, and delivery of audit services.
  • Build and maintain client relationships to support the growth of the audit business.
  • Learn and utilize new and emerging technologies and audit tools.
  • Manage workflow and meet multiple deadlines with concurrent engagements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Desire to pursue a CPA license or possess an active CPA license.
  • 0-3 years of relevant audit experience.
  • Basic understanding of US GAAP and GAAS procedures and standards.
  • Ability to effectively manage changing industry regulations and maintain excellent communication.
