About the position

The Auditor Coding Educ & Training position at Mercy is a remote role focused on reviewing and analyzing medical documentation for accurate coding in inpatient, outpatient, and professional services. The auditor will perform revenue audit functions, ensuring compliance with governmental billing regulations and supporting the revenue cycle. This role involves collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to facilitate compliant processes and provide education on coding practices.

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze medical records for accurate coding of diagnoses and procedures.
  • Perform revenue audit functions as assigned, requiring knowledge of the revenue cycle and compliance structure.
  • Support appropriate reimbursement and compliance with governmental billing regulations.
  • Analyze and present complex revenue information to support operational and strategic decision-making.
  • Provide compliance support to the organization's revenue cycle, including oversight of quarterly RVU reports.
  • Assist with physician incentive requirements and preparation of annual audit schedules.
  • Prepare reports of findings and meet with providers and coders to provide education on coding practices.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of coding experience in ICD-9-CM diagnosis/procedure coding and HCPCS/CPT procedure coding in an acute care or professional services setting.
  • Awareness of coding requirements based on payors such as MS DRG, APC, CPT, ICD, HCPCS.
  • High school diploma required; A.S. or B.S. in Health Information Technology or Management preferred.
  • Certifications such as RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC, CPMA, or CHC to be completed within 6 months of employment.
  • Knowledge of state, federal, and local regulations pertaining to documentation, coding, and billing required.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
