About the position

The auditor position at Mercy is a remote role focused on reviewing and analyzing medical records for inpatient, outpatient, and professional services. The primary responsibility is to ensure accurate coding and compliance with governmental billing regulations, supporting the organization's revenue cycle. The auditor will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to facilitate compliant processes and provide education on coding practices.

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze documentation in medical records for accuracy in coding.
  • Perform revenue audit functions as assigned, requiring knowledge of the revenue cycle.
  • Support appropriate reimbursement and compliance with governmental billing regulations.
  • Analyze and present complex revenue information for operational and strategic decision-making.
  • Provide compliance support to the revenue cycle, including oversight of quarterly RVU reports.
  • Assist with physician incentive requirements and prepare annual audit schedules.
  • Prepare reports of findings and meet with providers and coders for education on coding practices.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of coding experience in ICD-9-CM and HCPCS/CPT coding in an acute care or professional services setting.
  • Knowledge of coding requirements based on various payors (MS DRG, APC, CPT, ICD, HCPCS).
  • Experience in healthcare coding and compliance activities such as audits and compliance program participation.
  • High school diploma required; A.S. or B.S. in Health Information Technology or Management preferred.
  • Certifications such as RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC, CPMA, or CHC to be completed within 6 months of employment.
  • Knowledge of state, federal, and local regulations regarding documentation, coding, and billing.
