About the position

The Auditor position involves performing professional auditing work of moderate difficulty for the Navajo Nation government. The role focuses on examining financial records and operating practices to ensure compliance with applicable laws, policies, and procedures. The auditor will conduct audits, develop reports, evaluate work processes, and provide advisory services to various departments and entities within the Navajo Nation.

Responsibilities

• Conduct audits according to prescribed standard audit techniques.
• Develop comprehensive reports on findings with recommendations.
• Perform preliminary studies of applicable laws, contracts, and legislative decisions.
• Evaluate work processes, policies, and procedures to establish system reliability and accountability.
• Obtain sufficient information to provide a reasonable and justifiable audit opinion and conclusion.
• Present recommendations to appropriate operating officials.
• Provide advisory service to Navajo Nation chapters, programs, departments, and entities relating to internal controls and accounting principles.
• Conduct presentations, attend meetings, and review draft policies and procedures.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Political Science, or a closely related field.
• Two (2) years of governmental auditing and accounting work experience.
