About the position

The Auditor position at the Department of Veterans Affairs is primarily focused on conducting audits in finance, acquisition, logistics, payroll, and capital asset management to enhance business practices within the medical center. The role involves working closely with the Chief Financial Officer and the Assistant Fiscal Officer to ensure compliance and quality control in financial operations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform financial audits by examining accounts and financial records to certify the accuracy of financial statements.
  • Conduct program reviews of logistics, contracting, accounting, and capital asset management to ensure compliance with internal audit programs.
  • Lead audit teams composed of medical center staff with appropriate expertise.
  • Provide advice and assistance to the Assistant Chief Fiscal Officer regarding financial operations.
  • Develop and implement programs to maintain quality transaction processing and customer service throughout the business cycle.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Degree in accounting, auditing, or a related field with at least 24 semester hours in accounting courses, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Specialized experience at the GS-9 level or higher, including conducting audits and preparing audit reports.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) certification.
  • Experience with federal financial regulations and compliance.
