About the position

The position serves as a senior auditor in the Oversight Support Center (OSC) at the Department of Veterans Affairs in Austin, Texas. The role involves planning and conducting financial and performance audits of VA programs, functions, and operations, ensuring compliance and effectiveness in the use of resources.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct broad financial and performance audit assignments.
  • Develop new audit approaches and creative solutions to controversial problems.
  • Prepare and conduct audit surveys and program evaluations.
  • Develop audit findings that include condition, cause, and effect, ensuring criteria support reported conditions.
  • Prepare various types of reports and briefings covering major functional areas and financial aspects of VA programs.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Degree in accounting, auditing, or a related field with 24 semester hours in accounting courses.
  • At least 4 years of experience in accounting or a combination of education and experience that provides professional accounting knowledge.
  • Specialized experience equivalent to GS-12 level in the normal line of progression for the occupation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) certification.
  • Experience with federal auditing standards and practices.
