About the position

AnthroMed Education is seeking a dedicated and passionate Assistive Technology (AT) Specialist to support students with Augmentative Alternative Communication (AAC) and life skills in Washington, DC. This full-time position is designed for individuals with a background in Speech-Language Pathology (SLP), Occupational Therapy (OT), or Physical Therapy (PT). The AT Specialist will play a crucial role in ensuring that students have the necessary tools to access the curriculum effectively. This includes providing technical support, conducting evaluations, coaching staff, and delivering services tailored to each student's needs. The AT Specialist will be responsible for determining the specific Assistive Technology required for each student, enabling them to participate fully in their educational environment and the community. This role involves active participation in the development of Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals, attending meetings to offer expertise on Assistive Technology, and responding promptly to evaluation requests from the educational team. Additionally, the specialist will assist in managing materials and creating engaging activities for students in the classroom, ensuring that appropriate multimodal communication supports are identified and effectively utilized across various contexts. Professional development is a key component of this role, as the AT Specialist will collaborate with all stakeholders involved in the allocation and implementation of Assistive Technology. Completing relevant paperwork within the required timelines, in accordance with federal and state laws, district policies, and procedures, is also a critical responsibility of this position. Responsibilities

  • Support all aspects of Assistive Technology implementation for students and staff.
  • Determine required Assistive Technology for each student to access the curriculum.
  • Participate in the development of IEP goals and attend meetings to provide expertise on Assistive Technology.
  • Respond to Assistive Technology Evaluation requests from the educational team in a timely manner.
  • Help manage materials and create activities for students in the classroom.
  • Assist in identifying appropriate multimodal communication supports and ensure adequate follow-up.
  • Participate in professional development activities and collaborate with key stakeholders.
  • Complete relevant paperwork within required timelines per federal and state law, district policy, and procedures.

Requirements

  • School-based and/or pediatric experience.
  • Extensive experience with assistive technology is required.
  • Advanced Degree in Speech-Language Pathology (SLP), Occupational Therapy (OT), or Physical Therapy (PT) is required.
  • Valid DC clinical license from the District of Columbia's Department of Health.
