About the position

The position involves building hyper-scale database services in the cloud, specifically focusing on Amazon Aurora MySQL, which combines the speed and availability of high-end commercial databases with the simplicity and cost-effectiveness of open-source databases. The role is centered around designing and developing significant system software components critical to AWS's industry-leading database services, with a strong emphasis on scalability, reliability, and performance. The candidate will engage in all levels of the software development cycle, from design to deployment, while also mentoring other engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Solve challenging technical problems at every layer of the stack.
  • Design, implement, test, deploy, and maintain innovative software solutions to transform service performance, durability, cost, and security.
  • Build high-quality, highly available, always-on products.
  • Research implementations that deliver the best possible experiences for customers.
  • Create metrics, implement automation and other improvements, and resolve the root cause of software defects.
  • Participate in design discussions, code reviews, and communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work cross-functionally to help drive business decisions with technical input.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
  • 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience.
  • 5+ years of leading design or architecture of new and existing systems experience.
  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead, or leading an engineering team.

Nice-to-haves

  • 5+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
