About the position

The Austin Energy Operations & Maintenance Specialist (Electrical) is responsible for performing electrical maintenance and repair on city-owned commercial buildings. This role involves assisting the planning and projects department with small remodel jobs and participating in an after-hours rotational on-call program. The position requires a strong background in electrical systems, as well as general maintenance knowledge in plumbing and HVAC, to work effectively as part of a team during on-call situations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical maintenance and repair on city-owned commercial buildings.
  • Assist the planning and projects department with small remodel jobs.
  • Participate in an after-hours rotational on-call program.
  • Install, test, debug, and repair complex utility equipment.
  • Calibrate sensors, controllers, and meters.
  • Enter data into computerized and/or manual maintenance systems.
  • Record data on appropriate forms and logs.
  • Start up and shut down diesel generator units.
  • Monitor operation of equipment and machinery in the work area.
  • Perform preventive maintenance activities on utility equipment.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent.
  • Four years of experience in a field related to the installation, operation, and/or maintenance of a utility facility power, steam, or chiller operation.
  • Valid Texas class C driver license or ability to obtain within ninety days of employment.
  • Ability to produce and maintain an acceptable driving record.
  • Knowledge of safety rules, codes, and regulations applicable when working on or near energized electrical systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience and knowledge on HVAC.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook).
  • Experience with preventative maintenance on electrical equipment.
  • Experience operating in Computerized Maintenance Management System or similar work order system.
  • Current Valid State of Texas Electrical license (Journeyman or Masters) or ability to obtain one within 6 months of employment.
