About the position

The Insurance Authorization Specialist (IAS) at Bon Secours plays a crucial role in the daily operations of the Physician Office, specifically at Tuckahoe Orthopaedics & Physical Therapy in Mechanicsville, VA. This position involves scheduling patients, managing referrals, and ensuring the highest level of customer service and professionalism. The IAS works closely with the Office Coordinator, Clinical Coordinator, and Physicians to support financial and program objectives while maintaining patient confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Answering phone calls and managing patient inquiries in a polite and timely manner.
  • Collecting co-pays and managing deposits.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient files and medical records.
  • Creating, editing, and updating therapist and patient schedules to maximize efficiency.
  • Assisting in the invoicing system by scanning and emailing invoices to accounts payable.
  • Registering patients in a timely manner.
  • Preparing and submitting insurance forms and obtaining necessary authorizations.
  • Ensuring accurate payment posting and reconciliation of billing.
  • Assisting in the preparation of financial and billing reports as requested.
  • Listening to patient complaints and finding effective solutions.

Requirements

  • High School Degree or GED.
  • One year of experience in a clinic or doctor's office (preferred).
  • One year of experience in a secretarial position (preferred).
  • Basic computer skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Typing skills of 40 WPM with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic math skills.
