About the position

The East Central Kansas Cooperative in Education is seeking a Special Education Teacher for the Autism Program at Eudora Elementary. The role involves assessing students' skills to determine their needs and developing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to each student. The teacher will plan, organize, and assign activities specific to each student's abilities, ensuring that they receive the support necessary for their educational growth.

Responsibilities

  • Teach students in small groups and one-to-one
  • Implement IEPs, assess students' performance, and track their progress
  • Update IEPs throughout the school year to reflect students' progress and goals
  • Discuss students' progress with parents, teachers, counselors, and administrators
  • Supervise and mentor para-professionals who work with students with disabilities
  • Prepare and help students transition from grade to grade and after graduation
  • Adapt general education lessons and teach various subjects, such as reading, writing, and math, to students with mild and moderate disabilities.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Special Education or willingness to pursue a plan of study
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues and administration
  • Organizational ability
  • Basic knowledge of State and Federal statutes relating to students with disabilities
  • Kansas Certificate/License with endorsement in special education, waiver eligibility minimum
