About the position

The position involves coordinating and providing direct instructional programs for special education students, focusing on their Individual Education Programs (IEPs). The role requires monitoring and evaluating programs for students with disabilities while ensuring compliance with relevant laws and maintaining confidentiality. The educator will create a conducive learning environment and support the academic and behavioral needs of students.

Responsibilities

  • Develop IEPs for students with disabilities and implement them effectively.
  • Use diagnostic information to update IEPs as needed.
  • Implement instructional strategies and progress monitoring tools for specially designed instruction.
  • Assist students in completing curriculum tasks and achieving IEP goals.
  • Employ various teaching methods and adapt materials to meet student needs.
  • Monitor student behavior and maintain discipline in the classroom.
  • Evaluate student work and adjust instruction based on progress and needs.
  • Attend IEP meetings and collaborate with team members.
  • Stay updated on trends and best practices in instruction through professional development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university.
  • Hold or be eligible for a North Carolina Professional Educator's License in an Exceptional Children's teaching area.
  • Valid motor vehicle operator's license according to NC requirements.
  • Extensive knowledge of instructional practices related to special education.
  • Considerable knowledge of state and federal policies regarding services for students with disabilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Apps.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA.

Nice-to-haves

  • First Aid and CPR certifications.
  • Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) certification.
