About the position

The AutoCAD Drafter at Potelco, Inc. is responsible for drafting utility designs based on client standards and requirements. This role involves close collaboration with project managers in the engineering department to produce job sketches for utility designs, ensuring accuracy and adherence to specifications. The position requires proficiency in GIS/CAD software and a strong understanding of electrical design principles.

Responsibilities

  • Draft utility designs overseen by a distribution engineer.
  • Analyze line design data captured in a job workbook to produce job sketches for utility.
  • Convert preliminary designs for facility replacement system upgrades to standardized mapping products in the GIS/CAD mapping environment.
  • Evaluate and improve cartographic processes.
  • Improve existing or develop new GIS/CAD production processes to meet new cartographic products and requirements.
  • Learn specialized mapping assignments.
  • Assist newer co-workers in learning specific mapping tasks.
  • Understand and execute as-built mapping.
  • Utilize customer's internal computer programs for job task completion, required submittal forms, and material entry.
  • Manage timelines for job sketch production to ensure timely turnaround by project priority level.
  • Participate in regular training on process updates.
  • Perform and complete other duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or certificate program from an accredited educational institution is preferred.
  • Highly motivated, well organized, resourceful, and proactive with a team-oriented style.
  • Basic knowledge of voltage regulation, electrical load calculations, system protection, and fuse coordination for distribution systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret utility mapping systems and civil construction drawings.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret business periodicals and information, journals, technical procedures, and data.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts commonly found in business transactions.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Proficient in the GIS/CAD software environment and MS Office tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with databases such as Maximo, WebCentral, etc.
  • Ability to solve complex problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to apply basic algebra, geometry, and engineering principles.
  • Strong interpersonal and speaking skills are required.
