About the position

The AutoCAD Drafter/Detailer position is a full-time role based in Cresson, TX, where the individual will be responsible for creating detailed shop drawings using Advanced Steel software. This role requires the ability to interpret verbal and written instructions, as well as marked prints and sketches, to produce accurate and compliant drawings for product production. The drafter/detailer will work closely with the Project Manager and Shop Manager to ensure that all contract drawings are coordinated effectively, and that the details align with the specifications provided by clients. In this position, the successful candidate will be expected to create shop drawings that adhere to established drafting standards, review component drawings that are based on field-verified dimensions, and generate Bills of Materials (BoMs) for bids or fabrication. The role demands a high level of visualization skills to transform concepts into tangible fabricated products. The drafter/detailer will also be responsible for performing take-offs from customer-provided drawings, ensuring that all details are accurate and ready for manufacturing and assembly. The working environment is primarily in a shop office, where collaboration with shop management is essential. The position requires a detail-oriented individual who is organized and can thrive in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to shift priorities as needed. Physical requirements include sitting, standing, occasional bending, crouching, and lifting, along with frequent computer work.

Responsibilities

  • Create shop drawings for product production adhering to drafting standards.
  • Review component drawings produced from field verified dimension and assembly drawings for shop fabricators for manufacturing and assembly.
  • Coordinate the details of contract drawings with the Project Manager and Shop Manager.
  • Perform take-offs/BoMs from customer-provided drawings for bids or fabrication.

Requirements

  • Experience with Autodesk Advance Steel software or other equivalent 3D drafting package.
  • Ability to read commercial, mechanical, and architectural drawings.
  • Experience detailing structural drawings and generating BoMs.
  • Detail oriented, organized, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong computer technical skills, particularly in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Drafting background in construction or manufacturing preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Preferred)
  • 5 years of AutoCAD drafting experience (Required)
