About the position

The Auto FPM Claim Representative at Travelers Insurance is responsible for managing Personal and Business Insurance First Party Medical claims from the initial notice of loss through to resolution and payment. This role involves ensuring compliance with internal and external quality standards while providing exceptional customer service throughout the claim lifecycle. The representative will analyze coverage, investigate claims, manage medical treatment, establish reserves, negotiate settlements, and may handle litigated files as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver consistent service quality throughout the claim life cycle, including prompt contact and ongoing communication.
  • Review and analyze coverage, applying policy conditions and verifying benefits available to the injured party.
  • Investigate claims to determine coverage, causation, damages, and medical necessity through contact with relevant parties.
  • Proactively manage medical treatment and ensure proper payment by reviewing medical bills and records.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate claim and expense reserves to reflect overall claim exposure.
  • Negotiate settlement amounts and convey claim settlements within authority limits to insureds and claimants.
  • Handle litigated files and develop resolution plans with legal counsel as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Degree or GED with a minimum of one year auto claim handling experience or completion of Travelers Claim Representative training program required.
  • Associate's Degree or Bachelor's degree with 2 years auto claim handling experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • Demonstrated ownership attitude and customer-centric response to tasks.
  • Attention to detail ensuring accuracy in claim handling.
  • Ability to work in a high volume, fast-paced environment managing multiple priorities.
  • Intermediate keyboard skills and proficiency in Windows, including Excel and Word.
  • Intermediate verbal and written communication skills.
  • Intermediate analytical thinking and judgment/decision-making skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior Auto First Party Medical experience preferred.
  • Intermediate knowledge of insurance contracts and principles of investigation.
  • Basic legal knowledge and intermediate medical knowledge.
