About the position
The Painter/Finisher position at STS Group involves applying protective and decorative coatings to automotive components in a new facility in Salem, Virginia. This role is crucial for ensuring high-quality finishes on Class A surfaces, contributing to the overall aesthetic and functional quality of the products manufactured by the company.
Responsibilities
- Sprays surfaces of manufactured products with protective or decorative materials using a spray gun.
- Cleans grease and dirt from products using lacquer thinner, soap, and water.
- Applies masking tape over parts and areas that are not to be coated.
- Manually manipulates parts into the proper carrier/hanger for proper spraying/drying.
- Sands and preps the primer surface, removing defects and filling cavities and dents with body filler and putty.
- Selects and mixes coating liquid to produce desired color according to specifications.
- Pours coating liquid into spray container and connects gun to air hose.
- Regulates width and pressure of spray according to knowledge of painting technique.
- Directs spray onto work surface to apply prime or finish coat.
- Cleans spraying equipment and brushes with solvent.
- Performs spot repair on parts using blending clear to cut in edges.
- Wet sands small defects and buffs paint back to original shine.
Requirements
- 1-5 years of experience in automotive paint and body repair.
- Experience with paint surfaces, paint sprayers, and paint booths preferred.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal/written).
- Excellent visual acuity to identify flaws in Class A painted surfaces.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Certifications from apprentice or training programs preferred.
